Inspired by the dreamy, reverb-drenched music of surf rock, WVVY breathes new life into the genre while drawing from elements of hip-hop and the Pacific Northwest. Bands like Khruangbin and Kikagaku Moyo come to mind when listening to iNDIGO’s debut album. However, there’s not quite a perfect comparison as WVVY maintains its own unique identity as an instrumental beat tape first and foremost.

iNDIGO started by digging up old music videos from the 60’s and 70’s to draw inspiration from. The album’s sound took shape during experimental sample sessions with fellow It's Future Time artist, AED. In these sessions, iNDIGO played the role of sound engineer while AED played various instruments, vibing out to beachy, psych-rock visuals which were projected on a loop in the background. Once they had a healthy batch of short original sample loops, iNDIGO took them back to his studio and constructed the album from these elements.
