about

Darren Todd’s newest single, Coast, is a heavy-hitting riptide of new school funk. The harmonies gently ebb and flow throughout the song like waves lapping on a rocky shore. Hypnotic bars are delivered with the fervor and tenacity of an artist put through the ringer as a chorus of vocals back him up with a danceable likeability. At it’s core, Coast is a love story, a back and forth, a compromise. It’s also about confronting the very nature of time - how it can bring people together, tear them apart, and ultimately keep moving - like the ambivalent force of nature it is. Todd finds himself the only constant through this epic rollercoaster of life and love. The listener floats effortless along next to him as he takes it on, one breath at a time, passionately witnessing every moment like it could be his last. This song leaves you feeling all the feels and grooving along entranced in its beats.

lyrics

The days go by faster than ever before (so much see so much to do pick it up)
The nights that were gathering behind closed doors
Plotting to build it up from the ground floor
Profit off of knowledge we know in our core.

If reality is what you make it my thoughts are aligned with the planets im spacing, beats thumpin down in her basement, id much rather jam then to have conversation. Im honest and patient, or maybe I'm honestly patient enough to keep waiting as long as we make it, yeah tomorrow is promised to those who don't sleep in the night, deeper than mines, gotta dig through the rough just find the precious inside, look at the angles that the pressure provides, don't move in anger just take it in stride -- this is diamonds, or this could be gold, we live in defiance of all that you know, polishing up all these gems from these stones, set in the sun all the little seeds grow. Rake up the leaves of that money tree though,
Look back and laugh cuz it's funnily sloped all downhill, like coast, coast, coast.

Blood of Jupiter bottled, I been sipping the autumn, I been drinking the harvest, Why your mouth look so solemn? You got problems we’ll solve them just promised to finish the things that we started, It’s alarming how often the coast gets diminished and gets disregarded, im guarding my thoughts against violence, im ready with all perfect timing, gut feeling says stand in alignment, Im thinking of all we decided, weighing out our sacrifices, messing with each of my vices, maybe there’s no god to guide us, maybe we think that we’re righteous… but why.

Where the grapes and the flowers grow up like weeds by the wayside devour, you intercede but these prayers dont matter, you cannot see what the future holds after the way we can, in the studio every weekend, study all night while the rest of our friends follow the sirens in search of the mindless the violence. Concerned with the prizes but never the cost-- stay up all night deep in search of whats lost, strive to define it by writing it off as a one time thing or a three month fling or a life long dream on its way. to. be. reality. When you put your mind to what you need. You can coast into the future see, you can know inside its what will be, You can coast as long as all the trees, grow the money on like every leave, cuz you planted seeds you planted seeds, turning dreams into reality.
